Swarm and Matrix 2021
Painting-installation
Acrylic on polyethylene board
“Swarm and Matrix” is an installation composed by multiple pieces of curved paintings. The double-sided painting units floating in a space are watched not as a series of work but as a swarm organizing inter-relations between each unit pictorially (2-dimensionally) and sculpturally (3-dimensionally). These relationships build an inter-dimensional expansion of painting field spreading in the whole space that is continuous and smooth but doesn’t have any repetitive part. This swarm system starts to function as a matrix generating the depth and spread of an optical world, and painting art becomes an autonomous network building a complex pictorial network outside of the painter’s control.
